For Mom

I think of my mom quite a bit, like when I hear a John Denver song. And I also think of her when I see a cat, especially a Siamese cat. I love you, mom!
There are a few cats that we see in our yard every now and again. Most likely our neighbor's felines. We haven't been able to get them to come up to us when we call kittykittykitty, so we bought some cat food. I KNOW I KNOW, WE'RE ASKING FOR IT. Believe me, we won't be cat owners anytime soon. We just want to pet them as they head on home from their daily adventures of whatever cats do during the day.

Also for mom, an outfit covered in ladybugs. That also makes me think of her.

Chillin

Ever since we first saw Sam (like, ultrasonically), she's been chillin. And it hasn't changed. I could put together a whole book of pictures of her with her legs either crossed or relaxing on something.  These next few are just from the past few days.

One of the very first times we saw our precious Sam. She was chillin.

Enjoying the Outdoors

Sam and I like to be outside; there is something therapeutic about being in the outdoors, surrounded by nature, feeling the breeze, the fresh air, and seeing the beauty in the world.

It is a morning ritual that when Sam wakes up in the morning, she comes into our bed and climbs to the window to watch the morning occurrences going on outside; the mountains, which are exhibiting their fall beauty with the changing leaves, the cars and buses that pass by, the morning runners (which we usually join), the sprinklers on the field across the street, the birds happily flying around, who were up early enough to get the worm. It's quite fun to watch the morning sunrise from the window.

Obviously, we didn't watch the sunrise this morning, but still, it's a pretty view.

Rulan's Big 6-0

Happy 60th Birthday Rulan!

Kathy has been planning for months, to surprise Rulan on his 60th birthday. And it all paid off. He and Kathy walked into Stockman's, him thinking they were going on their usual Friday night dinner date, and the waitress brought him to a table, full of his whole family. (Minus Cali and kids, who were sorely missed.) Rulan was pleasantly surprised, and Kathy was ecstatic that she was able to keep it a secret from him for so long.

We enjoyed the weekend, full of family and memories. Gifts, which included some nice and some not-so-nice (Erin got Rulan some depends, prune juice, Milk of Mag, a urinal, and filled a protein powder container full of m&m's with a prescription label for a lifetime supply of Viagra. All to prepare him for old age.). Lots of food, chatting, playing with grandkids, fishing, more food, games, and and more delicious food.

Rulan is one of a kind, a guy that I am lucky to call my father-in-law.

The video at the restaurant isn't uploading, it was too long, darn it. Here are some from the weekend though.

Projects

Josh will never be hungry for a home project again. I hear the list never gets shorter. And, in a way, that's ok, because Josh (and Sam) enjoys it.

Home Owners

We are home owners! And we LOVE it! We both feel like this home is perfect for our family and are so excited to be here in North Ogden. With a home comes a long list of projects and to-do's. So Saturday has become our project day. Which Josh secretly loves. Well, not even secretly. He loves it! Sam does too. She will grab his tools, and after putting them in her mouth, she'll bang on whatever it is Josh is in the middle of fixing.

It is fun to see how curious and interested Sam is about everything. She wants to be in the middle of the action. Her, Grandpa, and Josh fix the swamp cooler. Rulan took the back off and Sam had a blast splashing the water in the reservoir.

So Thankful

Every morning around 6:00 AM (sometimes earlier), Josh's alarm goes off. I rarely ever hear it, but when I do, I open my eyes to see Josh roll out of bed and get ready to head off to work. Before heading out, he always gives me a kiss goodbye. He sometimes gets a mumbled reply, but most of the time he says I just sleep on. So he quietly leaves and if I am by chance awake I hear the truck crank on and pull out of the driveway, marking the start of another long work day.

He does all of this without a single word of complaint. Day after long day he comes home tired, but happy and cheerful. And ready to spend time with his family.

This morning I was a little overcome by how selfless he is. As he pulled out of the driveway, like he always does, I was overwhelmed with how much gratitude I have for him, and how much love he has for me. I am so thankful- SO THANKFUL- for his hard work, the way he cheerfully fulfills his responsibility as provider and protector of our family, and for the many things he does for us that go unnoticed and unthanked.

Josh, I love you. Thanks for all the good things you do, especially for our family.

As sad as it is to see him leave every morning, knowing it will be ALL DAY before he gets home, I know that he does it for us and that he loves us. And for that I am grateful.

Peach Gleaning

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has a peach orchard in Pleasant View, just a few miles down the road, and once they are done harvesting all the peaches they open it up to the public for "peach gleaning." So Josh and I took full advantage of that and loaded up boxes with peaches that were still good. We had to pick among alot of rotten peaches, but we found some gems.

We got them skinned, blanched, and froze pretty quickly before they went bad. Now we have lots of frozen fruit for oatmeal, YUM!

Friends, Freedom, and Fish

I have a friend, Tasha, who is absolutely amazing! She has two kids, Samson (who is 3) and Violet (who is just over a year). It's great, we get along so well, and the kids all love each other, so we hang out quite a bit. Sam enjoys following Samson around and laughing at whatever he does. She also likes to play with Violet, and mostly try and imitate everything she does...which means Sam will learn to walk soon.

Sam is all about her independence. And she thinks she is the ruler of my water bottle. Whenever I take a sip, she HAS to have a sip too. It's quite adorable, because she can do it all by herself.

This is Tasha's fish tank, and Sam is fascinated with it. She'll stand like that for a long time, waiting for the fish to swim down by the bottom and then she'll poke the glass and laugh.

Olive Garden

Some of the Cozzens cousins went to Olive Garden, thanks to Darin Cozzens! We had a great time, catching up, telling stories, laughing, and enjoying the company of the Cozzens! I wish we could have stayed all day visiting. I sure love our family, extended and all! Darin said that my dad introduced him to Olive Garden (SO GOOD), and that's where he treated us all to lunch.

Into Everything

Sam is ALL OVER THE PLACE, with her newfound hobby: crawling. And then pulling herself up onto anything she can grasp. She's discovered the toilet paper, opening drawers, pulling out pots and pans, cleaning off the table so that everything is scattered on the floor, banging things together, attempting to sneak to the stairs and get a reaction out of mom, and walking along furniture. It's so much fun! I really do love it! I just have to watch where I walk now, because she moves so fast! I was packing boxes and look over to where she was sitting on the floor playing and she was gone!...So I hurry to the stairs, realizing I didn't shut the door and we don't have baby gates yet..and I go to take a step and she's right under my feet. Luckily, no fingers were squished. She keeps me busy, and I am learning to love every second of it!
